In 1931 my grandfather, Herman Schorr, testified as a psychiatrist in this trial. The full name of the case is People vs. DeVore, Tobin, Walsh, and Boy, indictment number 185021. I found a transcript of the trial and dutifully scanned the whole thing. Good thing I got to it when I did, as it was falling apart as I scanned it.
As a criminal prosecutor, I found this to be good reading. It is fascinating to see how arguments were made and evidence taken back in 1931. You can read it here.

Rather fascinating reading. The language used is quite stilted by modern standards, but nevertheless understandable. The speed of the trial, the sentencing & the scheduled date(s) of execution are quite rapid by today's standards. I haven't yet read through the entire transcript so I can't comment on much more than this. It seemed, from what I read, that they submitted appeals but these were summarily rejected--a situation which would clearly not occur these days.
